Western Tea-Tree

    (Melaleuca trichostachya)

Also known as: Narrow leaf Honey Myrtle, Flaxleaf Paperbark

Western Tea-tree is common along the riverbanks and flood prone areas of Carnarvon gorge and Arcadia valley. It grows to about 10 metres tall with trunks to around 300mm diameter or bigger.

The trees papery bark and masses of bright flowers make it one of our more attractive trees. The flowers can appear any time of year depending on conditions.
Western tea-tree timber is of medium weight, is close grained and fairly bland as far a figure goes. It is prone to some internal checking while drying. The timber is easy to work and machine, sands easily and takes a nice finish.
